Select Board · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Norfolk Select Board adopted four internal-control policies and created an advisory working group after a state Inspector General report. The board voted unanimously to approve new rules on procurement, department-head timesheets, personal use of public resources, and quarterly financial reporting, responding to nine IG findings tied to the former DPW director and town administrator oversight gaps. Town Administrator Rob Garrity said the town has recovered or secured promises for nearly $7,000 of roughly $10,000 in costs cited by the report and is procuring an independent audit.

A roughly four-month "procurement and internal controls advisory working group" will recruit residents and staff, with appointments expected September 14. Garrity separately told a resident that a privately formed "Norfolk Citizens Oversight Committee" has "not been endorsed or signed off on by this body." Select Board member Anita Mecklenburg said of the former administrator, "We trusted him."
