Norfolk panel recommends new conservation commissioner
Conservation Board · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Norfolk Conservation Commission recommends new member, continues two wetlands hearings. The board unanimously backed Norfolk resident Bill Dempsey, a retired accessibility engineer, for appointment to a vacant commissioner seat, sending the recommendation to the Select Board's September 14 meeting. Commissioners continued a tree-removal hearing near a protected stream and a Norfolk Trout Club road-and-culvert repair application to October 7, both pending state DEP file numbers.
Applicant Tom Lobera raised concerns about buffer-zone pines that could fall like "dominoes" into his home. The board also released 16 Westfield Drive from a decades-old order of conditions and discussed requiring roughly a $4,000 bond on new-construction projects to guarantee builders obtain certificates of compliance. Staff reported developer GFI Partners plans to file notices of intent for a large commercial redevelopment of the former Southwood Hospital property on Denham Street.
