Norfolk Finance Committee reviewed a $2 million fiscal 2027 budget gap tied to a $378,000 Tri-County assessment and a $1.1 million structural deficit carried from this year. Finance Director Gary said the town is budgeting conservatively, noting medical insurance costs rose 9 percent instead of the budgeted 18 percent, still "unsustainable" even at the lower rate. Free cash stands at $2.1 million.
Members unanimously approved November 12, 2025 minutes and debated how closely to coordinate with the Select Board ahead of a joint Saturday budget session, with one member insisting the committee would not give up "our independence early on in the process." The Select Board has discussed a special town meeting in April to place a Proposition 2½ override question on the May ballot, and a public budget Q&A is set for March 30.
